The principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are essential for a fully realized vision of community-building through performance. These values help shape Roots in the Sky and inform our artistic identity as storytellers responding to the contemporary experience. We believe that it is our duty to not only address and help correct the historic exclusion of composers from diverse populations, but to forge a new, equitable, and inclusive path forward. And so, we commit our organization to inclusive programming and to championing voices that have been historically marginalized in choral art.
In hopes that it may serve as a resource for students, educators, and other choirs, we will maintain an ever-growing list of works by women, trans, nonbinary, and/or BIPOC composers that Roots in the Sky has shared with our audience here below:
